Well, this blog post is
I Started A New Job
Back in May, I started a new full-time job – finally! The search took longer than I wanted it to, but it all worked out in the end. I’m now a development editor at a publishing company and I’m learning a ton and meeting lots of great people. I’ll admit that I kind of put blogging on pause once I started the new gig and got back into 9 to 5 mode after months of making my own daily schedule. But one of my goals for 2019 is to get back into a groove and post more often.
I’ve Been Writing (and Reading) More Poetry
This past fall, I took a ten-week poetry workshop that really pushed me to dive deeper into my writing practice and think more about my own craft. It also brought to light some of my own insecurities that I realized I’m going to have to confront at some point. Similar to the way I was once uncomfortable calling myself a writer, I’m still a little hesitant to call myself a poet. There were several published poets in my class, and it wasn’t until I ran into my poetry teacher at an event and she introduced me to someone as one of her advanced students, that I realized I need to get out of my head and stop comparing myself to where other people are in their journeys as poets. I also need to get past my fear of reading my work aloud. During the course of the workshop, I got great constructive feedback on some of my poems and I think I’m finally ready to start sending some out to be published. That’s another goal of mine for 2019 (along with reading my work at an open mic). Wish me luck!

Making Healthier Choices
I’m getting older (as we all are), so I’m trying to make healthier choices so I can feel my best for as long as possible. I’m still (relatively) young of course, but I’m already noticing that my energy level and ability to keep my weight in check is not what it used to be! But I’m taking it one day at a time and trying not to be too hard on myself. After all, it’s all about balance, right? I am slowly starting to shed some of the extra pounds I put on, so I feel determined to kick things up a notch, after the holidays, of course : )
More To Come
I’ve got a few more things up my sleeve, but I’d rather play those cards close to the chest for now; you’ll find out more once they’ve come to fruition. What are some of your goals for 2019? Let me know!
Fireboy and Watergirl 2 Light Temple
First off I want to say wonderful blog! I had a quick question in which
I’d like to ask if you don’t mind. I was interested to
find out how you center yourself and clear your mind prior to writing.
I’ve had a difficult time clearing my mind in getting my ideas out.
I truly do enjoy writing but it just seems like the first 10 to 15 minutes are wasted just trying to
figure out how to begin. Any suggestions or tips?
Kudos!
